| I'm DONE!! Finished with pedi today.. what a relief! Just realized that i have not updated this super old blog for almost a YEAR.. i'm not too good with updating but oh well, today deserves a blog cos gonna go out and partay! It's such a landmark to finish.. i feel so happy and grateful that through all of this, God was right there beside me. Anyway, exam cases today were pretty ok, had quite benign examiners... 1) VSD in non-dysmorphic child.. 2) Short stature with hirsuitism (external guy who was quite masked face), 3) Ataxia (S Chiu who was really nice), 4) interesting hemangioma on the hand and arm (E Kwan and V wong). other ppl had some mucopolysaccharidoses and TOF etc.. so it was quite a wide range of cases. but no developmental! and i brought all my cool toys! haha.. oh well... maybe i'll just keep them for myself. hope we all superpass!! =) | | |
| I love.... ...... HUNG HUNG (紅紅).. My favorite little boy in the febrile ward. Roanna might understand my crazy love for this little dude... cos she is in love with him too! hahahaaa! and Wing Wing. And PONG PONG! (who's actually a doctor, but that's besides the point). It's so amazing how there's such a diversity in the illnesses of kids, how they present, how they all cope so differently with it too... support from the family means like.. everything. And lil 2yr olds like hung hung inspire you to want to help all sick children, cos he doesnt deserve to be sick and stay in the hospital. Have learnt so much in paeds. Am so blessed to have the opportunity to learn from such amazing profs to help these sick but amazing kids. =) | | |
| Nearing the end of obstetrics and gyne... it's been an awesome time of chillaxing and seeing babies =). must admit that i didn't like the gyne part so much with all those PVs... (to all those who've had to do them a billion times, you would understand). Am looking forward to paeds, even though ive heard it's quite a grueling time... cheers to upcoming crazy times together! *clink*
Had our last tutorial in obs today... haha.. just looking at zara's face when some english words were mentioned cracked me up sooo much. anyways, our group has been quite interesting and we've had an interesting tutor as well, so he's kinda like us.
anyways. something REALLY sad happened today. actually, lots of sad things have been happening to ppl lately.
one of my family friends (someone a bit older than me) is getting married this saturday, so this is naturally a very happy event. but today, they just found out her younger sister (who's also one of the bridesmaids) .. her boyfriend (-almost fiance), just got diagnosed with LATE STAGE CHOLANGIOCARCINOMA. (a very bad bad bad cancer). he's only 24. the doctors are not going to treat him. they are gonna let him slowly die, give it a few months or so.
now, i''ve only seen 3 ppl with this cancer during my surgical rotations before. they were all past middle-age.. all passed away in a few months even with surgery done. this must be one of the worst cancers around... he only had some vomiting for a month before.
there is nothing to do... so sad!! what is one to DO during this time? if you were him, or the girlfriend, what would you do? there's really not much.
... except for divine intervention. we need God's help for this one.
| Man, if i didn't have classes this week or any exams coming up, i will join the march and protestors every day. Just reading richie's site (www.xanga.com/therichiewu) shows what really happened during the protests against the WTO -- they are NOT bitter/angry/violent korean farmers, but are fighting peacefully for justice and fairness. C'mon, beating drums and opening umbrellas, sitting, chanting, jumping into the sea is what happened for the majority of the time, not crazily bashing towards the police. The hong kong media is quite disgusting in portraying just the skewed perspective of things, concentrating on fights and action, which isnt the true message that the peasant farmers want to portray anyway. The HK media craves for bad things to happen, for injury statistics and for brutal rioting.. to conjure a juicy story for the headlines. See both sides of the story clearly. Voices need to be heard without bias. Judge for yourself. There are reasons behind every protest.
As a journalist reporting on the scene writes,
..."Witnessing it confirms the most cynical views of media spin, and offers an insight into how the myth of violent "anti-globalization" protests is reinforced..
..."they're fighting for their livelihood," a notion that will never grace the pages of the Morning Post. " -
i hope nothing bad happens these few days.
| It's December 2005 and I have finally decided to UPDATE.. hahahaa.. after a billion years. The past month and a bit has been crraaazzy good even though it's been stretching us to work our butts off at Ruttonjee hospital... but the doctors are great and we are all so sad to depart from them after our exam on the 21st... must persuade them to have dinner with us or maybe go get them to treat us hahaha (highly doubt it, unless jacky persuades them hehe). Today i had no class because of WTO... so got to rest and enjoy the rest of the day.
Hahaha...must check out Michael's site for pics from our hiking poses... quite communist looking.
The most normal looking one....

27th Dec... going to shanghai baby!! the psychotic girls and two 'sane' guys.. it's gonna be awesome!
